Yesterday I met up with Kate Majid, CEO of the Shaw Mind Foundation. Last year I was asked if I would like to be listed as one of their speakers and recently was listed in their first brochure here.

This charity has:

 one simple but powerful pledge: to fight and redress mental health injustices. We give our support to children and adults – whether they are sufferers or the loved ones of sufferers – who feel that they have lost hope. We are resolute in ensuring that our children and the next generation will not be failed over mental health.

When I suffered from a very severe mental illness, puerperal psychosis, then subsequently recovered, my aim was also to offer hope to others. Part of this was also to educate others about mental illness and to inspire and improve the services to help those affected. These are the reasons why I feel The Shaw Mind Foundation and I are suitably matched.

I was even more pleased when I discovered that Kate (photo of us below) had worked in perinatal mental health settings.
